The murder of Renee Good in Minneapolis is heartbreaking and disturbing, and it’s not an isolated incident. Trump’s immigration “plan” has been chaotic, and it’s become even more deadly.
There needs to be a full investigation and accountability for what happened in Minneapolis, without intereference from the Trump Administration.
Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, who never should have had this job in the first place, needs to step down immediately. In her first year as DHS Secretary, she hasn’t just made a few mistakes – she has completely failed at her job and made our entire country less safe.
The Trump Administration’s immigration “plan” has been chaotic from the beginning
They have no plan, no chain of command, no oversight or transparency, and no coordination with local law enforcement. They’re ordering armed federal law enforcement officers and soldiers – with little to no training or experience in de-escalation and community engagement – to take over communities despite the objections of local leaders, inciting even more fear, violence, and unrest.
It's potentially corrupt. The two largest private prison companies in the U.S. donated almost $3 million in total to Trump’s political campaign, and now they’re set to profit significantly from his mass deportation campaign.
This seems to be another case of Trump, his donors, and big corporations enriching themselves at the expense of the country.
These policies have not made America safer
The Trump Administration’s immigration policies are also not effective, and have not made America safer.
They’re pulling resources from our border and immigration system, and failing to stop violent and dangerous criminals. Instead, they’re targeting law-abiding, legal immigrant and asylum seekers – people who have been in the country and contributing for decades – and disrupting our economy and communities.
Public safety and immigration are real issues in communities across the country, and they require serious solutions and leadership. We have to secure our border and reform our immigration system, but we have to do it in a humane, orderly, legal, and effective way – without the chaos, corruption, and cruelty of the Trump Administration.
As a member of Congress, I’ll keep working to hold the Trump Administration accountable, stand up for those most marginalized, and push for commonsense, comprehensive immigration reform that keeps our country safe, and treats immigrants humanely and with dignity.

What process could be initiated to impeach Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem?
I couldn’t agree more. Kristi Noem should absolutely be forced to resign. She is at the helm of this group and that’s the way it works in the real world. Congress should demand it.
